Text
This green roof is designed to be both a food source and a habitat for local wildlife no matter the conditions, attracting birds, bees and butterflies.
Text
Our design uses low, ground cover plants around the outer ring, with taller grasses and some ferns and shrubs in the middle sections to add depth and structure.
Text
A green roof can be heavy, and weight restrictions for the building means the design needs to allow for only a shallow layer of soil.
Text
Instead, the plants are grown in individual, lightweight ‘Eco Pillows’, which will gradually weave together.
Text
We’ll be watching closely to see how these indigenous and native species adapt in this unusual environment.
Text
Over time, we aim to reduce the number of exotic plants we are using.
